Growing Spinach in Containers

Spinach is an annual leafy green that is packed with vitamins and nutrients that make a great addition to your diet. It’s also an incredibly versatile vegetable that tastes as well cooked as it does raw. Spinach can grow very fast and be ready for harvesting in just one month! If you buy spinach already growing in a pot from your local nursery, you can prune and trim the leaves back several times before the plant needs to hibernate for the season. If you’re ready to grow spinach on your patio or balcony, check out this growing guide for all the tips and tricks you need!

Beginner’s Advice

When you first start growing spinach in containers, please note that the plant may reach up to one foot in width and height. Plan your potting accordingly to ensure maximum yield to meet your needs. Spinach prefers loamy, well-draining soil or potting mix that should be kept consistently moist. We recommend full sun for this plant, but it will need to be shaded in areas where the temperatures exceed 80℉ to avoid burns. Spinach can also grow in partial shade if you live in an incredibly hot environment.
