Salad Greens Growing Guide

Growing Lettuce in Containers

Salad greens are vegetables that we grow for their leaves to use in fresh salads. In addition to lettuce, there are many varieties that have higher vitamin and mineral contents that could be great for your overall health. You might consider adding baby spinach, chard, rocket,  and arugula to your salad green container for a lot more flavor and nutrients. Learn more about growing lettuce and salad greens in pots when you follow along with our general growing guide today.

General Information

Even when you’re growing lettuce and greens in containers, most varieties are ready for harvesting within four to six weeks. The majority of greens thrive in cooler environments, and many allow you to prune them for harvesting before growing again for up to four harvesting yields. We recommend potting your greens in rich, loamy soil or mix that has plenty of organic matter. They also require consistently moist soil to keep their shallow roots hydrated. Make sure your greens get enough sunlight without risking sunburn when you provide netting for shade when the temperature gets above 80℉ or move them indoors for hot periods.
