    Rosemary Growing Guide

    rosemary plant in a container

    Growing Rosemary in Pots

Rosemary is an herbal shrub with fragrant, needle-like leaves. It’s native to the Mediterranean region and often blossoms with purple, pink, blue, or white flowers. Growing rosemary in pots or in your backyard is simple, as it requires minimal care and maintenance. This hardy plant does well in the heat, as well as in dry soil. Follow our guide for growing rosemary in a container to ensure you always have this fragrant herb on hand for soups, pastas, and more!

    Quick Tips

We recommend growing rosemary in your pots during the spring to ensure there’s no risk of frost or extreme cold weather. This plant does well in any container, as well as in garden beds and in-ground gardens. Depending on how large you want your plant to grow, space your rosemary two to three feet apart. You’ll want to find an area with a ton of light and well-draining soil. To maximize rosemary growth, you can mix several inches of organic matter or aged compost into your soil. For growing rosemary in a container, a bagged potting mix for herbs will be best.

Your watering routine should be based on the dryness of the soil. Let the soil dry completely between watering to avoid root rot and breeding grounds for mosquitos. Don’t prune or harvest more than ⅓ of the plant at any one time.

    The Basics

Keeping your rosemary healthy is simple when you follow these basic instructions for climate and lighting. Keep an eye on your plant for signs of pests and diseases to catch any problems before they become serious.
