Petunia Growing Guide

Growing Petunias

Available in a variety of riotous colors, petunias are a popular windowsill or balcony plant because they have a long flowering period and truly pretty blooms. They’re also annuals in most areas, so they’ll come back to grace your garden with flowers year after year. While petunias in your garden can reach 18” in height, growing petunias in containers means they may top out at around 10”. If you’re interested in growing petunias in pots for your home, check out this guide from Patio Growers today!

Start Growing Now

There are several different types of petunias, and if you plan on growing your petunias in pots, we recommend choosing the Grandiflora and Floribunda varieties. When you buy young petunia plants, only put them outdoors after the last frost has passed, as they’re not very cold tolerant. They need tons of sunlight and well-draining soil. Water your petunias deeply once per week and trim any faded and old blossoms to encourage fresh growth.

You’ve already bought your petunias growing in containers, but you’re not sure where to go from here. Check these requirements, including sunlight needs and common problems, to find the best placement for your plant.
