Growing Peppers in Containers

If you want to add a bit of spice and a pop of color to your container garden, growing peppers in pots is a great way to go. Peppers are an extremely prolific plant, especially the spicy variety, and there are tons of different varieties and flavors that could be suited to your climate and kitchen. However, peppers are very sensitive to cold, so you’ll want to consider moving your pepper containers indoors during the winter months, as you can ensure they survive longer through the cooler seasons.

Making Peppers Pop

Peppers, like tomatoes, have a habit of upward growth, so you can maximize a smaller space with plants that grow tall instead of spreading out. For a single large pepper plant, we recommend a pot that can hold three to five gallons of soil to ensure the roots have enough space to spread. You’ll want to fill that pot with a well-draining loam potting mix with a pH between six and seven. Peppers growing in containers need full sunlight, preferring the afternoon sun over the morning sun.
