Growing Kale in Pots

Kale is a type of green that’s very similar to cabbage. But instead of a tightly formed head, it has a looser structure and a darker green color. Most of the time, people consider kale a cooking green, like Swiss chard or mustard, but kale can also be a beautiful addition to your balcony garden, as it comes in various shades of purple, green, and ivory. Whether you’re planning on growing kale for ornamentation or for food, Patio Growers can help ensure a thriving plant. Check out our guide today for some great tips!

Kale Facts

Like most greens, kale growing in pots has a pretty fast growth rate, and you can expect a harvest from seed in about three months. If you’re buying it fully grown from your local nursery, you can keep growing kale in containers, occasionally pruning and trimming to supplement meals with this delicious vegetable. Furthermore, kale is considered a biennial plant, which takes two years to complete a growth cycle. It likes loamy, moist soil with high organic matter content as fertilizer, so must be watered frequently.
