Growing Dill in Pots

Dill is a unique culinary herb known for its distinct flavor, which tastes almost like a mixture of celery and fennel. Most of the time, dill is used for pickled foods or combined with egg dishes, like deviled eggs, quiche, and more. When growing dill, you might notice that its feathery foliage makes it seem delicate, but it’s actually a pretty hardy plant that can survive in most environments. Learn more about what it takes to grow dill in containers from our growing guide today!

Dill Facts

We usually recommend getting dill in pots from your local nursery, so you don’t have to fiddle with seeding and seasons. Any nursery should have dill available in summer and fall, and this annual plant will come back every year as long as you ensure proper care. Dill prefers 6-8 hours of sunlight, rich soil that drains well, and slightly acidic soil pH. However, if you live in a hot, arid climate, you may have to protect it on hot days to prevent your plant from burning.
